Ideally the center channel speaker should go where it s closest to your ear level when seated.

My screen with frame is 52 tall with about 28 above and 24 below my eye level. Madmac i m in the market for a 1080p projector. Center speakers fit great on top of an entertainment cabinet or easily on a shelf mounted above or below the tv screen. It depends on how much space you have above and below your screen.
